Greenpeace Occupies Stena Don, to H...The Greenpeace ship Esperanza is in the Arctic to protest Cairn Energy's drilling here. Greenpeace activists left the Esperanza aboard inflatables, successfully evaded the Danish Navy and scaled the Stena Don drilling rig. Drilling for oil and towing iceberg...The Greenpeace ship Esperanza is in the Arctic to challenge Cairn Energy, a UK company searching for oil in the fragile yet hostile environment near Greenland. Since they arrived near the Stena Don, Cairn's rig, the crew have been observing drilling operations and the 'iceberg management' required to avoid collisions with giant floating lumps of ice.

Heavy mud and cement was injected into the well over a period of eight hours. BP staff has been closely monitoring the site and everything appears to be in order. Source: www.bp.com Canada's Beaufort Sea to Be Explored Imperial Oil Ltd, ExxonMobil Corp., and BP signed a joint venture to explore oil and gas offshore in Canada's Beaufort Sea. The oil giants acquired the exploration leases in 2007. The joint venture is meant for collaboration so the companies can avoid looking into areas that were already covered. However, they plan to wait until the National Energy Board decides whether the environmental impacts and safety regulations already in place are worth drilling in Canada's Arctic. The finance Director of Drax, the coal company, said that their initiative would be in line with the UK's carbon targets and also beneficial for the shareholders. The only thing the company is waiting for is approval that government subsidies would also apply to a conversion of a plant. Currently, the subsidies only cover new biomass plants.
